Life sciences research today is an increasingly collaborative endeavor, with individuals and organizations realizing tremendous benefit by tapping into the experience, insights and capabilities of peers and complementary organizations to develop the medicines and innovations that improve the human condition.

SLAS is proud to have served as a venue for collaboration since the Society’s founding.  Bringing together a diverse community of engineers, researchers, scientists, business leaders and pioneering academic experts has enabled SLAS members to advance scientific research by using the latest technologies and insights provided by fellow members of the SLAS community.

Introducing SLAS Ignite

Furthering our commitment to serve both the SLAS community and the life sciences industries at large, SLAS is proud to announce SLAS Ignite, a series of programs that foster scientific innovation through collaboration.  Premiering at SLAS2018 is the latest addition to this program, SLAS Ignite Academic Theater Presentations.

Developed specifically for academic researchers and industry scientists, SLAS Ignite Academic Theater Presentations enable academic research institutions to showcase their capabilities and latest research to diverse audience of prospective collaboration partners.  Conversely, industry professionals responsible for partnerships and contract relations can meet with prospective partners from academia.  Together, SLAS will facilitate connections that result in pioneering new research, innovation breakthroughs and commercialization opportunities for all involved.

Audiences Served

Scientists from industry and academic researchers looking for collaboration partners.  Plus, business development professionals (from industry or academia) whose responsibilities include finding, funding and formalizing research partnerships and collaborations.

SLAS Ignite Academic Theater Presentations at SLAS2018

The inaugural class of SLAS Ignite Collaboration presenters will be selected by a review committee based on the quality of their abstract.  The authors of selected abstracts will be invited to a presentation slot in the SLAS Exhibition Theater at SLAS2018 on either:

  • Monday, February 5 (1:00 – 2:00 p.m. PT) or
  • Tuesday, February 6 (1:00 – 2:00 p.m. PT). 

Presentation times will be designated once the invitation to present is officially accepted.

Abstract Submission Process:

Abstracts must be submitted via the online system by Monday, October 16.  Please read the following information carefully before submitting your abstract for consideration. 

  • Authors are invited to submit abstracts describing original research on topics relevant to the SLAS audience.
  • Abstracts should describe research being done in academic laboratories or centers and should include information on the goal of the research and timeline for research development. 
  • Abstracts should clearly present the research itself and results that have been obtained thus far as well as the need and intent of the collaboration being sought after.
  • Research addressed should be ready for collaboration at the time of the presentation
  • Academic Theater Presentations should be no longer than 10 minutes, with opportunity for additional Q & A
  • There will be an opportunity to schedule follow up meetings with prospective partners following the Academic Theater presentations

During the review process, authors will need to provide the following:

  • Abstract Title
  • Abstract text (450 word limit)
  • Primary Presenter details (one per abstract); Name, Job Title, Organization, Address, City, State, Postal Code, Country, Email, Business Phone, Biography
  • Identify Co-Authors; Name, Job Title, Organization, City, State, Country, Email
